Basement Remodeling

A finished basement is the most square footage you can add without touching the footprint of the house. It is also where shortcuts show up first, usually as moisture.

Scope

What the work includes

Moisture control first

Grading, sump, and vapor barrier addressed before a single stud goes up.

Framing and insulation

Furring or stud walls with rigid foam at the foundation, detailed to code.

Egress and safety

Egress windows cut and wells installed where a bedroom is part of the plan.

Mechanical rerouting

Ducts, lines, and panels relocated so the ceiling height you keep is usable.

Baths and wet bars

Below-slab plumbing planned in the drawing stage, not discovered in week six.

Finishes and trim

Flooring, doors, and casing that match the rest of the house instead of reading like an add-on.

Finished basement in Metro Detroit
How we approach it

Dry first, finished second.

Most failed basements were finished over a water problem nobody named out loud. We start by finding where water gets in and how the assembly will dry, then design the layout around what the mechanicals and ceiling height actually allow.

  • Water tested and documented before demolition
  • Ceiling height mapped against every duct and beam
  • Dust containment at the stairs for the whole build
  • Inspections scheduled so the trades never idle
Common questions

What homeowners ask first.

Anything not answered here, call Tim directly at 313.236.0985.

Will finishing the basement cause a moisture problem?

Not if the water is handled first. If we find an active issue we price the fix separately and you decide before framing starts.

Can I add a bedroom down there?

Yes, with a code-compliant egress window and well. We cut the foundation and handle the permit as part of the scope.

How low will the ceiling feel?

We measure before quoting and reroute what can be moved. You will see the finished heights room by room in the written scope.

Can we live in the house during the work?

Almost always. The stairwell gets sealed, dust is contained, and the site is cleaned each night.
